Sight Loss Charity Appoints Support Officer At Cromer Eye Clinic

Norfolk’s sight loss charity Vision Norfolk has announced the appointment of a new Eye Clinic Support Officer in north Norfolk, working at the Allies Eye Clinic at Cromer and District Hospital.

Aby Roberts will provide an immediate point of support for patients, acting as a bridge between the clinical team and those receiving a sight loss diagnosis.

She joins Vision Norfolk’s eye clinic liaison team working across the county’s eye clinics which aims to ensure patients understand the information they have been given, and to provide emotional support, information and advocacy, as well as referrals to local services and peer support groups.

Aby joins the charity having worked as a healthcare assistant at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.  She will be available at the Allies Eye Clinic on Mondays, Wednesday mornings and Friday mornings.

Vision Norfolk chief executive Andrew Morter said, “The impact of starting to lose your sight can be can be extremely distressing, isolating, and costly for those affected.  It’s not just the practical considerations of how you are going to live your life, but those who receive the news that they are experiencing sight loss also have to deal with their loss of identity.

“Those who have used our eye clinic liaison service tell us that just knowing there is someone who has a level of understanding is very reassuring.  The consultant deals with the medical side, while our team deals with the wellbeing side.  Both are vital if people living with sight loss are to live independent and fulfilled lives.”
