West Norfolk Vision Impaired Knitters On A Mission To Help Local Homeless People Keep Warm

Two homeless people in King’s Lynn will be warmer at night thanks to the efforts of vision impaired knitters in the town.

Vision Norfolk’s ‘Knit and Natter’ club, which meets at the charity’s King’s Lynn hub each month, has collectively created two blankets made up of squares knitted by individual members – and these have been donated to The Purfleet Trust, which supports people experiencing homelessness in the area.

Vision Norfolk hub co-ordinator Zoe Tinkler handed over the blankets to Dawnmarie Bird and Kieran Gamble from the Purfleet Trust, whose headquarters are directly opposite the charity’s premises on Bergen Way.

“Our Knit and Natter club is one of many activities we co-ordinate to help tackle the social isolation which people living with sight loss can experience,” said Zoe Tinkler.

“It is always reaffirming to see the skill with which even people living with severe sight loss can knit, and we are delighted that the result of their efforts are going to be used in such a good cause, helping those who don’t have a home to keep warm at night.”

Vision Norfolk’s Knit and Natter club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the charity’s King’s Lynn hub on Bergen Way.  Needles and wool are provided, as are tea, coffee and cakes, and the charity’s volunteers can provide transport if required.  For more details visit www.visionnorfolk.org.uk/knitting.
